MBBS or PharmD which one would be better……?

Which one would be more rewarding, doing plain MBBS or Pharm.D(Doctorate of Pharmacy).By plain MBBS I mean doing MBBS without thinking about any post graduation or specialization i.e being an MBBS doctor and not more.I’m laying down the course structure and scope of both Pharm D and MBBS so that it can be much more clear.

Additional Details

The Pharm-D syllabus as laid down by Pharmacy council of India have covers almost all of the diseases through various subjects and the corresponding practical via different names and heads. It is not like that of MBBS curriculum where the sections are categorized as general medicine, paediatrics, ENT, etc. But here they have interpreted everything in a different way.One cannot make out clearly, at first sight; to what extent the student is taught about general medicine and the clinical aspects but intact Pharm D and MBBS are same in regards to general medicine and the clinical aspects.

As pharm D is a doctoral degree any body graduating as Pharm D can put ‘Dr’ as prefix in front of his name.

On the stage Of Public Health Services We are not to Argue which one is better. Aim Should be to provide best health service, and for that Both have its own importance…

Main fact: in India der s no standard clinical pharmacy setup den how v compare pharm.d v/s MBBS? & how v achive clinical knowledge? Actually upto 3rdyear our Indian PHARM.D like B.PHARM only.. Many important topics r mising & i think PCI & Medical universities made d experimental pharm.d syllabus from 2008 batch – 2011..

And i dont know about your College but my college is providing Patient counselling and case study in 2nd, 3rd, 4th year and ward rounds in 4th and 5th year. and 6th internship.
And about community pharmacy I was leading and controlling that in our college last year so i know what we do and how much our group members know and as per my college, its fine and running successfully from last three years… 🙂

    Hii all,
It’s a nice article by Ateendra jha,Here in India pharm.D is not in a right track!! opinions are of there own priority i belongs to Annamalai university first pharm.D was introduced here&i just finished my 4th year. but here in my university i was not satisfied with the way the ward rounds are going & rest of the curriculum goes fine.we are posted to different wards on weekly basis but no faculty will monitor us no one bothers If we are going to ward rounds in a right way or not they simply come for rounds less frequently if they feel bored in class-room no one clarifies our problems

The colleges in india must make mandatory atleast 50% medical facullty for pharmacology&pharmacotherapeutics.Even i enquired many of my friends there even worse….In my opinion this pharm.D programme should be tied to MBBS department where we can work in correlated way..

Any one here have any idea If we are eligible in manufacturing indrustries???

Situation is changing and within 5 to 10 years PharmD will be in good position. We have open opportunity in industrial field also…

MBBS is UG course. After PharmD you can directly apply for PhD or any specialization. Just doing MBBS is nothing now days. You should go for higher studies.

If she has interest in Clinical study its better option. In India salary vary from Rs.8,000 to Rs.60,000 (initial stage) as per capability. To work in other countries you have to pass exam of respective countries. In USA and other countries its first professional degree and well known with good salary packages.

Don’t worry After 7 years PharmD will have better scope. D.Pharm is a diploma course, PharmD is PG ( Doctorate ). Concentrate on Human anatomy physiology i.e. Biology and in maths Stats, probability, Means mode medians, (u will need this in 4th yr PharmD) and General Chemistry.

Wish you All the Best 🙂
