Which one would be more rewarding, doing plain MBBS or Pharm.D(Doctorate of Pharmacy).By plain MBBS I mean doing MBBS without thinking about any post graduation or specialization i.e being an MBBS doctor and not more.I’m laying down the course structure and scope of both Pharm D and MBBS so that it can be much more clear.

Additional Details
The Pharm-D syllabus as laid down by Pharmacy council of India have covers almost all of the diseases through various subjects and the corresponding practical via different names and heads. It is not like that of MBBS curriculum where the sections are categorized as general medicine, paediatrics, ENT, etc. But here they have interpreted everything in a different way.One cannot make out clearly, at first sight; to what extent the student is taught about general medicine and the clinical aspects but intact Pharm D and MBBS are same in regards to general medicine and the clinical aspects.
As pharm D is a doctoral degree any body graduating as Pharm D can put ‘Dr’ as prefix in front of his name.
On the stage Of Public Health Services We are not to Argue which one is better. Aim Should be to provide best health service, and for that Both have its own importance…
wt r the main scope of pharm.d in india at present tyme…

As per the knowledge of Pharmacology I can clearly say we are better than all… You are wrong in this….
You are talking on the basis what you studied till 2nd year… See further you will come to all…
And i dont know about your College but my college is providing Patient counselling and case study in 2nd, 3rd, 4th year and ward rounds in 4th and 5th year. and 6th internship.
And about community pharmacy I was leading and controlling that in our college last year so i know what we do and how much our group members know and as per my college, its fine and running successfully from last three years… 🙂

Hii all,
It’s a nice article by Ateendra jha,Here in India pharm.D is not in a right track!! opinions are of there own priority i belongs to Annamalai university first pharm.D was introduced here&i just finished my 4th year. but here in my university i was not satisfied with the way the ward rounds are going & rest of the curriculum goes fine.we are posted to different wards on weekly basis but no faculty will monitor us no one bothers If we are going to ward rounds in a right way or not they simply come for rounds less frequently if they feel bored in class-room no one clarifies our problems
The colleges in india must make mandatory atleast 50% medical facullty for pharmacology&pharmacotherapeutics.Even i enquired many of my friends there even worse….In my opinion this pharm.D programme should be tied to MBBS department where we can work in correlated way..
Any one here have any idea If we are eligible in manufacturing indrustries???

Dear sir,
After pharm D if we can’t b practice as a Doctors so its worst.
Bcz in iñdia no respect of pharmacist, 10 or 12th pass candidates or any nurse can do such things like drugs advicing, dispensing, examination etc.
So there are no need of pharmacist or pharm D person in indià.
So very difficult to survive, plz first we should fight for our rights then we talk about scope and benefits.

Situation is changing and within 5 to 10 years PharmD will be in good position. We have open opportunity in industrial field also…

Dear Prem !
No body is asking you to flip from MBBS to PharmD or PharmD to MBBS. Its upon your judgement. If you feel its good, have interest, can enter. PharmD gives you a Postgraduate degree. MBBS is UG course. After PharmD you can directly apply for PhD or any specialization. Just doing MBBS is nothing now days. You should go for higher studies.

Most people says tat pharm d is not suitable for girls,is it true.Does it only involve drug manufacturing?

Its not like that… PharmD is mostly clinical… in PharmD we deal more with clinical Practice.. we are not involved in manufacturing…
